Coventry University Students’ Union is a charity dedicated to improving the experience of students at the Coventry University Group, operating across 7 campuses in Coventry, London, and Scarborough.


The Venues and Facilities Assistant Manager supports the effective day to day operation of the organisation’s venues and facilities, working across multiple sites including Square One, a multi-use entertainment venue, and The Place outdoor sports facilities. The role supports the delivery of a wide range of activities, events, and services, ensuring facilities are safe, well maintained, and provide an excellent experience for all users. Working closely with the Venues and Facilities Manager and the venues and facilities teams, the postholder provides hands-on supervision and supports staff, helping to create a positive, professional, and motivated team culture.

The role plays a key part in ensuring high standards of health and safety, licensing, and operational compliance are consistently met across all locations. The Assistant Manager contributes to operational efficiency, income generation, and continuous improvement, supporting the sustainable operation of all venues in line with organisational objectives. Due to the nature of the venues and services, the role requires regular evening and weekend working, with flexibility to support events, peak periods, and changing operational demands across both sites.

Our ideal candidate will have previous experience in duty and/or facilities management within a sports, events, or hospitality environment, with a strong understanding of operating busy venues safely and effectively. You will have experience of increasing participation or engagement, alongside a solid working knowledge of health and safety processes, including implementing procedures and carrying out risk assessments. You will also bring experience of supervising and motivating staff, supported by strong organisational and administrative skills. This includes confidence in managing booking systems, financial processes, and operational reporting, as well as excellent computer literacy and the ability to quickly learn new systems. Experience of using data to inform improvements is desirable, as is an understanding of Students’ Unions, Higher Education, or membership-based organisations.

Key Duties

  • Assist in the operational management of all venues, ensuring the provision of high-quality sporting facilities and events at venues.
  • Lead by example, ensuring front-line service is delivered within all our venues and facilities, mapping contingencies, staffing and financials. This includes, opening and closing of our venues and operating licensed bars (including handling and serving alcohol)..
  • To take the lead and responsibility on relevant major events, or duty management, as required.
  • Manage the provision of appropriate risk assessments to mitigate risk and injury, for all facility activity, department-led activity, and projects and events.
  • Assist in the continuous development of our venues and facilities and its staff, ensuring it remains competitive and relevant to customers/clients needs.

Working Hours and Location

This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. Due to the operational nature of the venues and services, the postholder will be required to work regular evenings and weekends, particularly to support events, peak periods, and core service delivery. Flexibility is essential, as working hours will be scheduled in line with business needs across multiple sites.

The role is primarily based across two Coventry locations: Square One, a multi-use entertainment venue located at The Hub, Coventry University (CV1 5QT), and The Place outdoor sports facilities at Westwood Heath Road, Coventry (CV4 8GN). This role supports working from home for at least one day per week. The remaining working days will be based on-site across the venues and facilities, with flexibility required to ensure effective operational coverage and support business needs.

Salary Details

The salary is £30,805 - £35,116 per annum. It is usual to start at the bottom of the grade and increase incrementally on an annual basis.
