BSL (British Sign Language) Session Trainer

Hourly Rate: £24.28 to £27.68 per hour, plus holiday pay

Contract: 100 hours over the academic year

Coventry University Students’ Union is a charity dedicated to improving the experience of students at the Coventry University Group, operating across 7 campuses in Coventry, London, and Scarborough.

As the BSL Sessional Trainer you will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality teaching of British Sign Language (BSL) to learners across a range of levels, with a focus on sessions for beginners/novices within Phoenix+, an employability initiative offered by the university in partnership with the Students’ Union. Your role will focus on planning, preparing and adapting teaching resources to offer dynamic learning opportunities that meet the needs of our diverse learners.

Our ideal candidate will have strong skills and experience teaching introductory (level 1-2) content, a solid understanding of teaching practices, and pedagogical approaches appropriate both for the content and diverse learners. You will need to be organised with excellent interpersonal skills, and be confidence using technology such as Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook as well as Online Learning Environments.

Key duties will include:

  • Deliver engaging and effective BSL workshops and longer training opportunities such as our BSL Club.
  • Plan and deliver engaging BSL taster and introductory sessions to mixed ability groups across the Coventry University Group.
  • Adapt teaching to different learning styles and abilities, using a range of visual, practical and interactive methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievements for Digital Badge awarding.
Working hours and Location

This post is a sessional role and the expectation is for 100 hours over the academic year. If you would be unable to commit to the full 100 hours but would like to apply on a reduced hours basis it would be helpful to include this information in your application, however selection / shortlisting will not be influenced by this information.

This post is a student-facing training role, with the successful applicant being predominately based onsite at Coventry University main campus.

Pay Details

This position holds an hourly rate of £24.28 to £27.68 per hour, plus holiday pay.
